Croquet is serious business at the Misquamicut Club in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. Sure there were breezy white cotton skirts and flower-adorned hats. A jazz band played under a tent. Fresh iced tea flowed like water. Soft ocean breezes brushed across the courts.
But this was the Century Cup, the first annual, and the battle for the title was heated. Black, blue, green, red, yellow, orange. Wickets, breaks, roquets, jump shots. They pulled out all the stops.
And with good reason. Luscious Florentines -- little slices of almond-buttery chocolate heaven -- flown in from Tag's Bakery in Evanston, Illinois, were the bounty to be claimed. Along with the glory of holding the Cup. At least until next year.
Memoir Design created the Century Cup logo, designed custom invitations and hand fans used as place cards, photographed the event and created a memory book to commemorate the occasion.
